OTTAWA – Northern Ontario municipalities are going to be hard-pressed to find relief for aging infrastructure and a fragile jobs market in the budget, according to Northern Ontario NDP MPs.

“Mr. Speaker, last week’s budget all but ignores Northern Ontario. The facts are in the Finance’s department’s own numbers. While the Southern Ontario development agency got some new funding, Northern Ontario once again got snubbed by these Conservatives,” said Glenn Thibeault (Sudbury).

SUDBURY – The NDP’s Northern Ontario caucus is disappointed that the Conservatives have again ignored this region.

“While we’re glad to see that the NDP call for an independent minister for FedNor has finally been answered, Conservatives then turned around and thumbed their nose at us by cutting funding for regional development,” said Northern Ontario Caucus Chair Glenn Thibeault (Sudbury). “At the same time, Conservatives are reducing infrastructure funding and recklessly moving ahead with cuts to EI.”

OTTAWA – On the eve of the possible destruction of a world renowned research facility, New Democrats are calling on Conservatives to stop their attack on public science and basic research.

OTTAWA – Sudbury MP Glenn Thibeault is calling on the Conservatives to support an NDP motion which calls on the Finance Minister to include a plan for long-term infrastructure and public transit support in the upcoming Budget.

Ottawa – In a first of its kind on Parliament Hill, Members of Parliament from all three major political parties participated earlier today in the inaugural meeting of the Entrepreneur Caucus, which is a committee designed to support and foster discussion on entrepreneurship in Canada. Caucus members heard presentations by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) on budgetary issues and other policy matters important to small business entrepreneurs.
